Nobel Prize 2020 in Economics

Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson jointly won the Nobel prize 2020 in Economic Science. The nobel prize 2020 in economics is given to Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson for their work for improvement to auction theory and invention of new auction structure.

Professor Goran K. Hansson, who also works as Secretary General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the Nobel prize 2020 in economics on 12 October 2020.

What is Auction Theory ?

Auction theory helps the researchers in understanding the result of different rules used for bidding, final prices and auction formats.

This is an analytical work and this analysis is difficult because bidder behave according to their strategy. They decide their bid on the basis of available information.Their knowledge and believe of other bidders are taken in consideration by them to decide the bid.

Work of Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson

This year Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson have studied in depth how actually auction works. Nobel prize 2020 in economics winner Paul Milgrom and robert Wilson also used their research work to generate new auction formats.

Their Auction Theory work also helped the seller, taxpayer and customers to improve their business and organization growth.Paul Milgrom and Robert Wilson’s theoretical discoveries have improved the auctions practices.

Robert Wilson successfully developed a theory for Auctions of Objects which have a common value. In the start of their work this value was different for individual objects but in the end this value was same for everyone.

Robert Wilson considered an example which includes the value of Radio Frequencies in a specific area. In their research work Wilson found the reason why some rational bidders tend to place bids below their own best estimate of the common value.

Paul Milgrom worked is related to formulation of a more general theory of auctions that not only permits common values but also work for private values that vary from bidder to bidder and not same for individual bidder.

Paul Milgrom analyzed the different bidding strategies in a quantity of well known auction formats. He demonstrated that how their auction theories format will gives the seller higher revenue as per their expectation.

इस नोबेल पुरुस्कार स्वरुप दोनों अर्थशास्त्रियों को गोल्ड मैडल एवं $1.1 मिलियन की राशि भी प्रदान की जायेगी ।नोबेल प्राइज की इस सेरेमनी को 10 दिसंबर 2020 नार्वे में मनाया जाएगा जहा इन्हे यह गोल्ड मैडल एवं पुरुस्कार राशि भेंट की जायेगी ।

आपको बता दें कि गत वर्ष 2019 में यह पुरूस्कार जवाहर लाल नेहरू यूनिवर्सिटी से अर्थशास्त्र में एम.ए. करने वाले श्री अभिजीत बनर्जी जी को अर्थशास्त्र में 2019 का नोबेल पुरूस्कार मिला है। श्री अभिजीत बनर्जी के साथ साथ उनकी पत्नी एस्थर डेफ़लो एवं अन्य अर्थशास्त्री माइकल क्रेमर को भी अर्थशास्त्र के क्षेत्र में नोबेल पुरूस्कार दिया गया है। भारतीय मूल के श्री अभिजीत बनर्जी जी ने भी यह बात कही है थी कि भारतीय अर्थव्यस्था बहुत बुरा प्रदर्शन कर रही है।

उन्होने भारत सरकार की नीतियों पर कटाक्ष करते हुए कहा था कि हालांकि सरकार इस समस्या को पहचान चुकी है किन्तु फिर भी कुछ सही कदम नहीं उठाये जा रहे। भारतीय अर्थव्यस्था तेजी से धीमी हो रही है कितनी तेज उन्होने नहीं पता क्यों कि आंकड़ों को लेकर विवाद की स्थति बनी हुयी है। लेकिन उनके अपने मतानुसार अर्थव्यस्था के धीमे होने की गति काफी तेज है। जिसमे फिलहाल सुधार आने के कोई आसार नहीं हैं। सुधार आने में कितना समय लगेगा वह अभी यह नहीं कह सकते।

श्री अभिजीत बनर्जी एवं उनकी पत्नी एस्थर डेफ़लो ने गरीबो के उत्थान के लिए कार्य किया। अर्थशास्त्र में अपने शोध कार्य के दौरान वह गरीबो के पास गए , उनसे जुड़े , उनके हालातो को समझा और पाया कि गरीब सारी जिंदगी अपने जीवन को बेहतर बनाने के लिए संघर्ष करता है, उसे बहुत मुश्किलों का सामना करना पड़ता है।

अपने इंटरव्यू के दौरान श्री अभिजीत बनर्जी जी ने भारत में फैली गरीबी और बेरोजगारी की और साफ़ साफ़ इशारा किया । उनके इंटरव्यू के मायने यह भी हैं कि वर्तमान समय में भारत में न्यूनतम आय गारंटी योजना बहुत जरुरी है। कोलकाता यूनिवर्सिटी से 1981 में बी.एस.सी. करने के बाद श्री अभिजीत बनर्जी जी ने 1983 में जवाहर लाल नेहरू यूनिवर्सिटी से अर्थशास्त्र में एम. ए.किया। 1988 में हावर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी अमेरिका से इकोनॉमिक्स में पी.एच.डी. की डिग्री प्राप्त की एवं वर्तमान में वह एम.आई.टी. अमेरिका में प्रोफेसर हैं ।
